Chea Sim was born around 1932. He joined a revolt against Pol Pot in 1978 and fled to Vietnam. In December 1978, he was selected as vice president of Kampuchea National United Front for Nation Salvation (KNUFNS). He held position of Minister of Interior from January 1979 to December 1981
